Broker’s Notes
This yacht and the yard are heritage stories in their own right. The design work was done by Robert Perry, an American naval architect with a long history of designing performance cruising yachts. The first Tayana 37s were built in 1975, one year after Perry opened his own company and two years after Ta Yang had opened its doors. Given that it is still in production, the Tayana 37 must be one of the world’s longest-running production series of yachts. Perry drew inspiration from the Colin Archer-designed yachts of the day, which originated in the 1900s, were still very much in demand in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Archer, a Norwegian naval architect active in the late 19th century, had designed and built sailboats that were used on polar expeditions and for the Norwegian Lifeboat Institution, as well as private yachts. His designs focused on safety and durability. Perry kept the looks topside, but modified the underside in order to make the boat more manoeuvrable and perform better to windward.
